While eBird doesn&#8217;t flag Black-crowned Night-Heron at this time of the year, I haven&#8217;t seen many at Montrose in the winter, though they do winter in and around Chicago in small numbers. It was the highlight of an otherwise slow day for birding \u2013 I ended up with 17 species, which is about as well as we do at this time of the year.
