This Web site was hand-coded using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML, Version 4.01 Strict), which is the standard markup language for Web pages. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are used exclusively for text formatting, link effects, and page layout. A Web browser scripting language called JavaScript* is used for image rollovers, form validation, image copyright protection, and status bar messages. Dynamic Hypertext Markup Language (DHTML), not a formal computer language but a combination of Cascading Style Sheets and JavaScript, is used for special effects, such as the tooltips for the photos on the Photo Archives page. Finally, PHP, a server-side scripting language, is used to process the online rare bird documentation form.
In summary, the languages used for this Web site include:
- HTML
- CSS
- JavaScript
- DHTML
- PHP
